There is a great craze these days to get into shape and, considering the problems that we are getting with childhood obesity, it is a good thing too. For those who have never considered doing anything remotely energetic, finding some form of machine that will help them can be quite difficult. Used exercise equipment is a good place to start with perhaps a used treadmill being one of the most popular pieces of used fitness equipment to buy. It is important though to make sure that the person knows how to use the machine properly before getting too energetic.

It is very normal for anyone embarking on a new regime to go at it a little too enthusiastically but this is really a little too much if the novice has never done much before. The resulting pain from muscles that never got any exercise before will most probably put them off for life if they are not careful.

For those who have some problems with too much weight, or their joints which could be quite painful, an elliptical machine is a good buy. This means that the person can proceed as if they are running but the machine will take all the weight off the joints in the meantime. As the person grows stronger, the machine can be altered to give more resistance and this in turn will make them much fitter of course.

The good thing about having a second hand machine is that not too much money is spent on some kind of fad machine which is really not suitable for the user. A good way to stop buying the wrong machine too is to go to a gym and try out whatever it is they have in situ. By doing this, the new person can also be advised on which would be a good machine to have at home so that they can build up their own small gym and get on with their workout whenever they have some time to spare.

Men usually go overboard on weight lifting but tend to concentrate on the upper body only. With this in mind they usually end up with a barbell and some weights but then forget about the bottom half of the body which should be built up at the same rate. The triangular look that they all crave would certainly look better if they had something in the lower half of the body to balance it up a little.

Of course, lifting and bending are all very well but this does not give a cardio vascular workout which makes the novice bring up the heart rate a few times a week. Although they may look good with their normal work out, it may be that they are not able to run at all without losing their breath and feeling very uncomfortable.

Although machines are eminently useful to make the body take shape, nothing takes the place of a good all round routine which will take all of the body as one unit and tone everything at the same rate.
